These Essay Camps have been remarkably useful for me. I didn’t do the exercises, I only read one of the recommended essays, and yet I wrote every day on an essay I’d been thinking about, but not getting to for months. How do you do that? Thank you, Summer.

Thank you Summer! I wrote all five days and also read at least one of the essays daily. I’ll read over my work in the coming days and continue to read the essays. I think I might also just continue to write from all the rich prompts you gave us for awhile. Like you, i’m finding after many years of journaling that I default to ruminating, which tends to keep me stuck in a negative thought cycle, so I think working with a topic or a prompt for awhile may be a better approach for me. Essays feel like a natural form for me and I want to continue this work. Thank you again!

I did it! Thank you! Currently trying to set a schedule/plan/accountability thingie for finishing a real draft. As is my way, I was finally able to do the full camp because had such a time constraint from the conference 🙄 I'm not a "need to do it under pressure" person, just a "it's only easy when it's hard" person, I think.

Thank you so much for this week. The Five Things Draft is a game changer for me and I will continue to use it moving forward.

This post also gave me helpful insight and inspiration for journaling or daily writing:

Essay Camp kicked off a one month stay in Paris for me, and as usual, the structured daily work, the thoughtful essay readings and the encouragement all conspired to push my current project over the second draft finish line and also, to create a new first draft of a personal essay. Thank you very much again, Summer.

Thank you, again, for creating a space where writing feels less like something that we always need to do "perfectly" and more like something that just needs to be done and practiced. People always talk about the value of consistency, but you always do an amazing job of actually making it seem possible, rather than just aspirational!

Thank you so much. I found that the five personal prompts really works for me. I will continue to use that as a way to connect with my muse. I wrote every day and am excited to reread and see what I can pull together to create an essay.
