My First Essay for Aeon+Psyche

From notebook entry to published piece.

Dear friends,

Just sending a quick note to say that I have a new essay up on Aeon Magazine’s sister site, Psyche: “The vibrating beingness of Seurat’s pointillist paintings.” The topic may sound familiar to some of you, since it started out here in the newsletter as one of my 30-day notebook entries (“The Atmosphere Advances”). The piece was inspired by an encounter I had with a small Seurat study at the Musée d’Orsay back in February. It does that essay thing of jumping around, from painting to photography, film, and philosophy, etc. I was approached by one of Aeon’s senior editors for this one, the multi-talented Marina Benjamin, so I didn’t have to pitch it. But like my little Meat Loaf essay in LitHub earlier this year, it makes me happy when notebook scribbles can have another life with a wider audience at a magazine or website.
