I was introduced to “fives things” by you, and it was a staunch companion through the catastrophe that was last year 💘 I’m forever grateful, and I loooooove reading yours!
Five Things is basically what drew me to your Substack. I've done so many now and it can be a warmup, it can be a deep-ish dive into some topic I want to address in my writing, or just a way to get something out of my head and on to paper. I have a notebook just for them, keep a table of contents and go back to them all the time. Love the practice.
The Five Things… I used to journal five things I was grateful for, five things I noticed on a given day, five people who inspired me (including fictional characters), five books or poems I loved… I haven’t thought about that in a long time. I don’t remember where it came from. Perhaps my Granna telling me to name “five good things” on days that were painful. Thank you for reminding me of this!
Thank you for the reminder about Five Things. I went back and read that post again and found interesting the 'field guide' array of writing prompts - including and especially the suggestion for later using one's own accumulated Five Things as 'personalized prompts'.
The painting… so lovely 💚🕊️
Aw, thank you!
Summer, my writing grew so much when I started practicing your five and three things essays, thank you :)
I think I originally found your Substack through Five Things as well. Always captivated by your words. :)

Thank you Megan 💜
I have loved the five things very much, Summer!

Five Things is a useful and reassuring mix of focus and freedom.
Any plans to continue with A Year of Writing Dangerously?
I'm working on addressing that as soon as I'm able! It's a big task.
Oh, thank you so much. I adore you and want what's best for you--at the same time, I've been hoping you'd address it. Wonderful news. xooxox
Completely understand. It was awful timing. As soon as I'm "back to work" it's my #1 priority.
