I read this over and over. Me when I was a little girl and young woman. I've past the age you described but am still fascinated by and savoring the light.
Bonjour Summer -- we met last May when you were a guest author at the Todos Santos in Paris Memoir Workshop (on Zoom, alas, due to a case of CoVid in our midst). I understand and share your obsession with the light. I live in Collioure, where in 1905, Matisse discovered his palette. It was the light here, of course. Some evenings, when the sea is lavender and the sky is tinged with green I think, "all he had to do was LOOK." Thanks for sharing your notebook. C'est top! ;)
So much to mull over in this entry. It's one of the things I enjoy so much about your writing, Summer, especially when you share these raw pieces of writing. You make me think and think and think ...
Such beautiful writing - it made me thoughtful of my life, made me sad a bit, then made me reflect of what I can do to fill my coming years until I reach 60.
So poetic. I’m also intrigued by light patterns and reflections of light. The beauty it pulls out can be breathtaking. This is a wonderful reminder for me to slow down and enjoy it more.
Time and light, beautiful theme. I’m reminded that now is so quickly yesterday as I sometimes experience time blindness. Love reading everything you post. Also inspired to get back to the 5 things practice.
Well, crap. Am I going to have to start painting? Because I am *obsessed* with the light. Afternoon autumn light in particular. Sunsets in general. Not a morning person so alas, never quite got the point of sunrises, but sunsets? I am here for the sunsets. Summer, your writing is such a gift to us all, thank you so much for putting it out into the world. I am very inspired by what you write and very helped in my own writing by lessons I’ve learned from your essay camp. Thank you.
Last week I had the occasion to go up north, into the boreal region. Flying in a helicopter over the land of 100,000 lakes, the morning sun being reflected in ever so many hues of white and blue light - yes, untold moments of time, of light. We miss these, we miss life. Thank you for the reminder.

“so conscious of how these little pieces of time could pass, how you could find yourself on the other side of them”
Breathtakingly beautiful and sorrowful, all in an instant -- and all we ever have.

Beautiful--you make me feel a part of your outdoor ramblings as well as your thoughts. Thank you.
Reminding me, beautifully, that Six Facets of Light by Ann Wroe has been on my to-read list for a long time.
Exquisite. I thought I was the only one who thought like this as a child, and also now. Thank you!
Your writing is magical and the images so vivid. You paint with words.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

OMG it is all about the light. The light and its effect on everything in the world. Let's face it there would be nothing without the light.

I am breathless ... inspired. Thank you for this stunning piece of writing.
Sometimes you just break my heart, but always in a way for which I am thankful
