Oh, this might not happen for me because I'll be traveling most of that time, but I'll look forward to your emails. Fingers crossed I can carve out some time for writing. By the way, I just purchased The Oyster Wars. I don't know why it took me so long to realize what your book was about. I used to live in the San Francisco Bay area and have friends that still live in Lagunitas. I left SF in 1990 but heard about the controversy through my friends. That estuary is a magical place!
Sorry to catch you during a bad week, Marie! You can always catch up with the emails another week, and I'll be on hand to offer support then too! And thanks about The Oyster War! I once lived in Lagunitas too :)
Thank you, and what a small world! Okay, I have to ask: Do you know any of these people--Harold Geritz, Meg Griffin, or Linda Nave? They are the only people I know who live in Lagunitas ;-)
No worries. Unless you hung out with people from the Park Service, you probably wouldn't have crossed paths with Harold and Meg. I just couldn't resist asking :-)
I'm so glad! I had hoped to do it in March but my schedule and circumstances of catching Covid simply did not allow, alas. I hope it will work for others too.
Ditto. Me, too. (Edit to say, although I don't know what I'll write about. I feel I need a jar of ideas or something, European events like tsunamis wiping out all thought.)
Looking forward to this. I have a WIP but need a kick in the pants to keep generating new material instead of editing and tweaking stuff that's already "in the can." Thanks for arranging this Summer.
Writing-newbie here. Can I just clarify ( though maybe I should wait to see what others produce) The Five Things essay format…. does one choose a topic e.g ‘Hedgehogs’ or ‘A day at the races’ etc and apply the Five Things to that topic or is it five different topics?
I am so much looking forward to Essay Camp, again!!! Getting my pens and journal at the ready! I even started reading the fine-wine writers ahead of time to begin priming my creative pump. I confess I've never read Annie Dillard before, which seems like a cardinal sin for a writer. Now I'm reading "Teaching a Stone to Talk," and blown away by her mastery of language. Great stuff. That was one of the revelations I got from your first essay camp, how reading works like Dillard's can be a key in honing our own creative process and craft.

Not that I recall at the moment!

Well, I definitely met some people in the Park Service while writing the book! Maybe I have met them and just forgot, it's been a few years.
Thank you, Summer. It comes in the perfect moment for me.

This is a great question—I'm going to write a post about this to go up today or tomorrow!
Yes can’t wait!! I joined last year three months after having a baby and it was such a nice outlet.
This is wonderful thank you!!!
