These are all new to me. The Sisters in Yellow cover is STUNNING!

Isn't it lovely? I'm looking forward to reading that one myself as well.

When I read the review, I kept thinking about the cover more and more! Thanks for sharing these.

Nothing better than a bird book.

Congratulations, and thank you! This is a wonderful beginning! I hadn't heard of any of these books and do appreciate them coming to my awareness -- very pleased, too, that you chose something from Milkweed and from Melville.

Would it help the cash flow situation a little to sign up as an affiliate with Bookshop? I know they offer only 10% back to individuals, but it could add up over time, especially if you link an author's featured selection as well as their backlist titles. I appreciate having the publisher's link to a featured selection, though, but you could always mark that link as Publisher Info and the Bookshop link as Purchase Here.

I already have a favorite bookstore for my Bookshop purchases, but I'd happily choose you for books I buy from the Supplement. (Your current link to Bookshop at the top of the post goes to a 404 Not Found page.)

(Apologies if you've already considered this approach.)

Looking forward to Vol. 2!

Hi Daniel, thank you! I have already signed up as an affiliate with Bookshop, I guess I just need to sort out the link situation.

Thank you so much for this! I always seek to broaden my reading horizon and I didn't know any of these books. This reminds me of one of my favorite German television programs where 4 well-known authors would share books they were reading and then discuss them in the round. I always learned something and came away with at least one book that I wanted to read immediately. Books are so important and it's fantastic that you are making them more known!

Thank you Katharina!

I love that you're doing this, and I loved discovering these new books!

New Anne Fadiman! Yay!

Summer Brennan's avatar

I know right? I loved how in the acknowledgements she thanked her editor for their patience about the fact that she “produces books at the pace of a constipated snail” or something like that. We are happy to wait!

Absolutely!

Your Frog review is so good. Makes me want to read the book, except I know already that the Frog essay will make me sad.

Well done Vol. 1!

Summer Brennan's avatar

Thank you! I wouldn't be too afraid of the Frog essay. Worth a little bittersweetness in my opinion.

Well done! These books are almost all new to me, looking forward to more.

This is so great, thank you for all the effort to put it together. Long live book reviews! The owl book is calling to me…

Summer Brennan's avatar

Thank you Maia. This may not turn out to be all that sustainable, but I will keep it going as long as I can!

that’s pretty much a good motto for all of life ; )

I really enjoyed reading this and feel that the specific selections were particularly good in that they so effectively presented such a range of titles that it made me consider reading outside of my own personal wheelhouse.

Summer Brennan's avatar

Thank you Erin! This was interesting for me as well, since I picked the books to match available critics, so it ended up being a combination of my own taste plus someone else’s. So far this whole experience is another reminder that working with others is good and allows you to attain something greater than if you’d done it alone.
